Prayer of St. Francis

Post  Katie on Thu Sep 18, 2008 12:29 pm

I'm sure most of you have probably heard this at some time or another. This is one of my favorite prayers - from way back to when I was a kid in the Catholic church.

I think it would be a really great meditation to close out the service and transition us from "Me Church" to the service-driven message of the following weeks. It basically talks about turning everything around so it's not about "ME" - it's about everything else. We could read it, or there are also several versions put to music including a really beautiful one by Sarah McLaughlin.

Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace;
that where there is hatred, I may bring love;
that where there is wrong, I may bring the spirit of forgiveness;
that where there is discord, I may bring harmony;
that where there is error, I may bring truth;
that where there is doubt, I may bring faith;
that where there is despair, I may bring hope;
that where there are shadows, I may bring light;
that where there is sadness, I may bring joy.
Lord, grant that I may seek rather to comfort than to be comforted;
to understand, than to be understood;
to love, than to be loved.
For it is by self-forgetting that one finds.
It is by forgiving that one is forgiven.
It is by dying that one awakens to eternal life.
Amen.

Yup - that's the song!

Nice video - especially like the creepy floating piano hand. Smile

Or would we rather make our own video/do the music live/both?

Do we have access to a database of images?

If so I can try and put something together on iMovie in my spare time at work. Cool

Just so I'm clear. We are still opening with the Me Church video then going to announcements and then...a word from our sponsor and play the cd's for sale video. Then go into teaching, this video song/prayer and worship at the end?

Should this video be an altar call? Are we going to be doing any invitations to join soon? I know we talked about it. There are quite a few families that have been coming to our service for a while. How do we go about this? afro

Yes we will open with the videos as you said and this video would be at the end.

We did the invitation to join a few weeks ago- so I don't think we want to hit that so much again. I think it is more about how the Church should interact with the world and what it should value- not being a member of the church??

Sorry. I must have not been there or something. I didn't see anyone join. Who joined?

Bad wording, we invited people interested in joining up. One of the couples did, and should be joining soon, still a couple of other families we need to prod along.

I really like this as a response - maybe a closing or something. I'm working on the video, between actual "work" projects at the office Wink

When are we doing communion this month? Would this be a good day? Kind of like, it's not just about us as individuals, but all of us coming together to one table as a group.?

Good idea! I think this would def. work for communion. The song is only 2 min. long though. Maybe we just do this video either before or after everyone comes up and then do instrumental for communion?

Are we wanting the team to play the song or use the S.M. audio?
